How Should Anointed Christians View Themselves?

Therefore, whoever eats the loaf or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will be guilty respecting the body and the blood of the Lord. First let a man approve himself after scrutiny and only then let him eat of the loaf and drink of the cup.  For the one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment against himself. – 1Cor. 11:27-29

The Watchtower March 2016 under the study article :”We Want to Go With You” and paragraph 5 quotes Paul’s words to explain how serious it is to partake from the emblems. The paragraph has the following to say :

“Those who partake of the emblems at the Memorial should carefully consider the warning found at 1 Corinthians 11:27-29. (Read.) What point is the apostle Paul here making? An anointed Christian would partake unworthily if he did not maintain a good relationship with Jehovah. (Heb. 6:4-6; 10:26-29) Such a warning helps anointed Christians to remember that they have not yet taken hold of the reward. They need to continue to press on “toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God by means of Christ Jesus.”Phil. 3:13-16.” (wt. 21/03/16 ,par 5)

Paul’s warning in 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 ,when read on its own ,it is a grave warning towards those who consider partaking of the  emblems .In fact the writers of the Watchtower seem to have had this kind of effect  in their mind when writing this paragraph, to deter people away from the bread and the wine. They never though make any mention of the reason why Paul admonished the Corinthians in such a manner neither do they make any reference to the context of these verses. If you read the context of these verses you’ll see that  Paul was simply trying to discuss the way the people were partaking of the emblems in Corinth. The first century Christians organised on a regular basis “love feasts= agapes ” or fellowship meals, accompanied by the passing of the bread and the wine in memory of their Lord. When you read the whole passage of 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 you find out that some used these occasions as an excuse to over eat and over drink .In actual fact some where going hungry during the day so they overindulged later during the Christian meeting!

Paul was warning against excesses ,against gluttony and drunkenness. Further more some were not sharing their provisions so some of the brothers and sisters were going hungry. Can you imagine someone using the Kingdom Hall as a place to get drunk and over eat and then partake of the emblems!

That would have been a truly despicable attitude, one I have never witnessed myself from anyone at the Kingdom Hall.
As a result of the unfairness and gluttony surrounding the partaking of the emblems, Paul says they were not really even eating the Lord’s Supper (verse 20). The people were not treating the Memorial as a sacred celebration instituted by Jesus. Instead of reminding people of Jesus’ sacrifice, these meals became a means of self-gratification. furthering the divisions among the Corinthian Christians. After describing the situation and explaining what partaking of the bread and the wine  should be, Paul writes, “Therefore, whoever eats the loaf or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will be guilty respecting the body and the blood of the Lord. First let a man approve himself after scrutiny and only then let him eat of the loaf and drink of the cup.  For the one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment against himself. ”(1 Cor. 11:27-29)

It is clear from the context of these verses that Paul’s warning had nothing to do with the hidden intentions of the writers of paragraph 5 of this Watchtower .The writers of the Watchtower want to scare you away from something that Jesus specifically told ALL Christians to do in memory of his death. It is truly astonishing the extents they will go to stop you partaking from the emblems and deny your Lord and Redeemer ,Jesus Christ .

This Wednesday the 23rd of March ignore these “Pharisees” reach out and partake what has been denied to you for so long .This Wednesday be part of the rising number of anointed Christians among the ranks of Jehovah’s Witnesses ,be part of what is turning out to be a silent protest against our abusive overlords .I will.
